Dominique Fournier, the man behind Willi's 2025 Bottle Art poster, is an interesting sort of chap. After twenty years in a Benedictine monastery, running the ceramics workshop and writing highly erudite books about Gregorian chant, he cast off the cowl (kicked the habit ?) and spent the following two decades working in the Saint Germain bookshop La Procure before devoting himself full-time to artistic creation. He is now most frequently to be found in the 15ème arrondissement, on the hunt for swathes of unsullied cardboard he can carve into spontaneous, sensitive & poetic expressions of the intangible, armed only with a scalpel & a great deal of precision. Music and poetry occupy a central place in his work, which "aims to make music visible" and includes illustrations of poetry volumes and a collection of wall-height cardboard cut-outs based on the eight movements of Olivier Messiaen’s "Quartet for the End of Time". The result of four years of work, these very arresting pieces were the focus of an exhibition in St Fargeau.
Over the years, artists have come to the Willi’s Bottle Art Collection in a variety of different ways. Dominique arrived quite by chance, one day, for lunch with his wife. But it was clearly an auspicious kind of a day, one of those where the stars are all lined up, because not only did inspiration strike (sometime between the guinea-fowl and a second glass of Châteauneuf du Pape) but we liked it! The 2025 poster for Willi’s Bottle Art Collection was in the works.
All at once reminiscent of woodblock carvings & stained-glass windows, the first ever Willi’s Bottle Art poster to have a 3D original has taken Willi’s Bottle Art to new spiritual heights with real handmade depth.
