New 2026 Bottle Art from the wildly talented David de Las Heras
It’s that time of year again ! The Bottle Art Nouveau est arrivé, and very art-nouveau it is too. Reminiscent of Campari adverts from a bygone age, this new, 2026 vintage of Willi’s Bottle Art Collection will, we think, become a classic in a matter of minutes. And it has provided a very valid reason for listening to “Ride a white swan” by T-Rex on repeat, which is always nice.
The wildly talented David de Las Heras is a painter and illustrator based in Barcelona who enjoys considerable success in the world of publishing and in the international press. He works primarily (though not exclusively) in oils which endows his work with a magnificent timelessness, being both traditional in terms of form and inescapably modern all at once. His work explores the strange, the slightly surreal & the magical, with depth and, always, incredible colours. His oranges in particular are just wonderful, but mostly he is a master of contrast, as is evident in his really rather lovely creation for Willi’s. We had high hopes to begin with in asking David to participate in Willi’s Bottle Art Collection, but when his first rough arrived, we were immediately delighted with his idea.
Swans themselves are fascinating creatures : did you know, for instance, that although swans are monogamous, black swans are a lot less so than white swans, and that illegitimacy is rife with black swan households ? We didn’t. But beyond that, the swan is an interesting parallel to make with wine—and indeed a wine bar ! In its elegance, its natural nobility, its unflurried glide across mirror-like lakes… not a ripple betrays the tremendous power in its paddled feet, the sheer strength and precision in the swan's whole body. And the slightly ruthless avian nature of the beast.
Similarly, every carefully chosen wine you drink is the end product of a long cycle of tireless, agricultural work, pure chance, absolute precision and specific choices. But as when the sommelier sails towards your table through a busy, bustling restaurant, bottle to the fore, all the agitation is underwater, unseen. Nothing but the beauty remains. Rather like a painting !
Pre-orders are now open for David's 2026 Bottle Art poster, which will be landing on October 13th (the wine bar's 46th birthday !) in two beautiful editions including, as ever, the limited Edition Vélin Signée.
